UKRAINE AND DEMOCRACY

Ben Steinhoff supports Ukraine, and always will. He truly believes in the democratic model of government and will support democratic nations from autocratic aggression, providing Ukraine with the weapons, support and intelligence they need to protect their homeland, and democracy in Eastern Europe with their troops, and their nation on the line. He also supports admitting Ukraine in NATO, and continuing to build our partnership with them to combat foreign interference, as seen with Russia, across the globe.

Scott Fitzgerald has multiple times voted against military aid packages to Ukraine, and repeatedly opposed efforts to arm, fund, or support Ukraine in their ongoing fight to protect their nation from aggression via an autocratic dictator, fueled by a militarization campaign across Eastern Europe. Most notably, having voted NO on HR8035.

HEALTHCARE

As a First Responder and employee at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, healthcare is Ben’s number one priority. From cost control, and ensuring every single American can afford their insurance, increasing accessibility and opening more rather than closing community-based healthcare facilities and cutting the out-of-pocket costs that families pay, like insulin and medicine.

Scott Fitzgerald supports ending the Affordable Care Act, throwing more than 45 million Americans off of their existing healthcare insurance, without a shred of a plan to replace it— and most recently opposed the ‘Affordable Insulin Now Act’ that capped the cost of insulin at $35.

BIPARTISANSHIP

Ben’s life as a first responder is about making split-second decisions, and being held accountable every single day. He’s also tasked with working several different components to get the job done. As Congressman he will be a bipartisan, productive and responsive leader— working with everyone and anyone who is willing to get something done.

Scott Fitzgerald supported ending Kevin McCarthy’s speakership because the Former Speaker of the House worked with Democrats to pass meaningful and bipartisan legislation— and every single year Congressman Fitzgerald has served in Congress, he has a low productivity score when it comes to passing legislation, and representing our district.

VICTIM’S RIGHTS

Ben will always steadfastly support the rights of victims of sexual assault and sexual violence to come forward, tell their story, and ensure they are brought to justice for what happened to them, and prevent future incidents from occurring, without victims or possible victims from facing retaliation for coming forward with their stories, and will support local communities and provide needed resources to combat epidemics of domestic violence, and rush aid to those affected in our community.

Scott Fitzgerald voted NO on the ‘Speak Out Act’ which protected the rights of victims who previously signed nondisclosure agreements, prior to their assault, from speaking out against those who committed unspeakable acts against them. He also voted against several whistleblower protection bills, aimed at preventing workplace retaliation— and voted against the ‘Break the Cycle of Violence Act’ that sought to support local communities and law enforcement to prevent situations of domestic violence and support those who faced abuse.

WOMEN’S HEALTHCARE

Ben Steinhoff believes in protecting access to women’s healthcare, including protecting the right to contraception, IVF, and other family-planning necessities. He also believes in protecting access to abortion, especially in cases of rape, incest, and to save the life of the mother, and does not believe that the issue of abortion is one that should be decided by the government— only the mother, the family, her faith, and her doctor.

Scott Fitzgerald as State Senator supported several bills restricting access to Abortion for Wisconsin Women, and now as Congressman supports a national abortion ban, would vote NO on federal legislation to protect the right to an abortion, and most recently, voted NO on defending access to contraception in the United States Congress.

SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY SAFETY

Ben supports measures to provide law enforcement and local cities with more, not fewer resources to prevent mass shootings, and other situations that put the safety of our communities at risk. He will push for more training in high-risk situations for law enforcement, more funding for prevention programs and security, and will put the mental health crisis of America as his #1 priority, as it is the healthcare crisis of our time.

Scott Fitzgerald, as State Senator, was a combative opponent to safety measures in public schools, and voted several times to not provide localities with the resources they needed to prevent and recover from tragedy and violence. As Congressman, he voted NO on the ‘Active Shooter Alert Act of 2022’ aiming to provide resources to local law enforcement in cases of active shooters, and opposes any restrictions on buying a firearm, including basic background checks, and an ar-15 ban.

JOBS AND THE ECONOMY

Ben is a part of Wisconsin’s working class, having been a former First Responder and currently works at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin— he understands the day-to-day struggle of Americans, amid rising costs, inflation, and through-the-roof interest rates. He believes that we should grow our economy, create an environment of job creation, and bring down prices for all Americans, that starts with supporting a strong working class.

Scott Fitzgerald, as State Senator, was an original author of Act 10— enacted in 2011, Act 10 played a significant role in making Wisconsin a right-to-work state, diminishing the power of unions and significantly decreasing worker rights and benefits. As Congressman, he voted NO to prevent price gouging on fuel prices, and has continued to not prioritize ending shrinkflation. He also voted NO on the ‘Invest in America Act’ and the ‘Infrastructure investment and Jobs act’ which contributed to the creation of millions of good-paying jobs.

VOTING RIGHTS

Ben believes that it should be made easier for all eligible Americans to vote, and it should not be made harder, or restricted for an American citizen of age to cast their ballot. From expanding voting rights across this nation, to making it easier to obtain a state-issued ID for citizens, and encouraging young Americans to vote straight out of high school— Ben believes in the promise and power of our democracy, and knows that no one should be able to take it away, and as long as we vote, they can’t.

Scott Fitzgerald, as State Senator, was particularly obstructive to voting rights in Wisconsin, and actively played a large role in throwing hundreds of thousands of voters off of voting rolls in Wisconsin, making it harder to register to vote, and cast a ballot in Wisconsin. His first vote as Congressman was to throw out the legal votes of Wisconsinites and decertify the Wisconsin election, and as State Senator voted to limit early voting, and end voter registration for High School seniors.
